Selfish

Selfish~~concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others (according to Merriam-Webster disctionary)

Salam, yah I know I haven't posted since forever. Anyway this post is inspired by two things. One is a bad example of selfish, while the other is a more productive way to interpret selfishness.

First example; keeping certain knowledge to oneself without sharing it. Some might say there are good reasons why they won't share. For instance, he (of course this is not based on a true story. I'm making it a 'HE' so as people won't get confuse if I put something else) got a tip that the teacher is going to give an extra hard pop quiz in class tomorrow, and he won't share it cause he wants to get good mark. So he studied all night and get a good great for the quiz while the other fail.

Second example; a doctor (OK, it can be an engineer, or any other profession. It's just easier for me to use a doctor as an example) who want to be in, in every surgery or procedure or even going out on night duty. Some people see 'him' (same reason as above), as a person who tried to show off to his superior or even is selfish cause he wanted everything for himself.

So both of the mentioned example are example of selfishness. But in my point of view, I do think that the second example is a good selfishness. I mean he tried to better himself so that he can be more efficient in treating the patient. As oppose to the first example where only he, himself got the benefit. To me since the doctor selfishness help other people, I don't count that as selfish. There are other people that benefit from the doctor experience.

Is this true? I guess in a way. Especially with those hypochondriac patient. But you can't say that all those patients are wrong. Do we let it nature take it's course when you know you can prevent it just by using some simple prophylactic vaccine or a simple tablets of penicillin?

The rip off

Today I went to accompany Hir to fetch her laptop from the computer shop (her laptop went boinker) Anyway when we went there yesterday they said that they had to replace the HDD with a new one and offer 3 choices. 2 160gb and a 250gb. Hir already choose the 160gb one and they said they will do it yesterday. so when we arrive today hoping to finally pick up the laptop they said they need to change it to the 250gb one. And it's gonna cost additional Rb2000++ (around USD90). we were like....WTF. thank god Hir talk it out and we got our previous deal back. Crazy Russians. What, did they think since we are enostrani (foreigners) they can do whatever they want??well excuse me...

so long........

Hmmm....haven;t blog for so long. when I look back at all the post I posted, I was like..WOW!! A lot have changed from those time. So it's been like 2 years since my last post. What have I been up to?? Well I've finish my most harrowing year (3rd year) in medical school. Well since I haven't finish yet, we'll see if there's more to come. Now in 4th year and doing pretty good (well as well as I can hope for). At least now I usually finish class by 1pm..so it's not that bad. and furthermore we got to see a lot more patient. This is because in this country, from 4th till 6th year the student will basically study 1 specialty for usually per week.so you have to study the same subject over and over and over again for the whole week..Hey I'm not complaining when it's therapy (internal medicine in other parts of the world), but when you have to face social medicine.....ARGH!!!thank god I don't have any bald spot (yaiks)

Ok I guess that about all the rambling I can produce right now. I am so envious of Alish's house (my brother). I want an apartment like that when I study too. But since he's in Aussie rite now.Welll.... Damn it..
